Default Monk Farming still possible and scalable?

Hi, I recently started playing Guild Wars again after a very long break. I bought the game when it first came out, and played for a few years.

Now I have made a new account. I plan to buy all the expansions (I'm only missing EotN).

What I learned from last time is that I always need to have some sort of meat grinder which can supply me and my other characters with money and equipment. Last time I had great success with a Mo/W combination using smithing skills.

Is this still a viable approach after all these years with patches and nerfs and all that? I know there is houndreds of posts about this from before, but It's making me confused, because some of them are quite old and I dont know if they are still viable.

I want to be able to farm both low level areas in the beginning, but also scale to end-game farming.

The reason I perfer Mo/W is because I'm already familiar with it's tactics. At least as it was before all the patching.

So short version: I'm asking is it still a viable and scalable approach to farming?

yes, it's still viable, though 600/smite and Mo/D are prefered, nowadays

you CAN do it its just not suggested anymore because its been replaced by faster farms that are more stable and less possible to muck up.

but as Dre says if your going to go monk farming you should go 600 w/ a smite partner( a hero will work but human players tend to work better). Also 55 monks are still viable( i used it to farm the nicholas the travler gifts last week* you might wanna look those gifts up so u can make some fast cash ^^*). Also im not aware of the Mo/D build but its just because i dont care for dervs. Well that should get you started for farming with monks ^^.

[build prof=monk/Any divine=9+1 protec=9+1 smitin=12+1+1][Protective Spirit][Spirit Bond][Shield of Judgment][Blessed Signet][Balthazar's Spirit][Retribution][Blessed Aura][Shield of Absorption][/build]

That's a basic template for solo. Higher end areas usually use dual teams. If your old Mo/W was a 55 and not 600, I suggest reading:

Thanks for the great replies. I will definently look into the bonding approach. I really like the idea

But first off, I probably need to spend alot of time getting the skills.. Very limited play time these days..

You can still do it as Mo/W at 55 the old standard build. This does not include elite intances.

Monk farming as a 55 is still doable in most areas that have no enchant dangers. 55 in the Underworld is not doable anymore due to the Skeletons of Dhuum. They hit for damage that is unpreventable, and one skill is instakill at 100hp. A 600 monk can do UW still, but since the nerf to Holy Wrath, a new "kill" skill is needed.

Does the solo 600 SB build work?

Yes, the Spirit Bonder build still works.

With the readjusted Smiter build. 600/Smite should work great with Holy Wrath and SoJ. All you need to do is body block using a wall or a corner since enemy AI won't try to go around you. And if one does manage to sneak by. Try to wand them back into fighting you. Farming in wide open areas with no walls or corners to block with might take a little longer.

[EDIT]
After further runs, I'm more prone to run a Sin or a SoS spammer.

While it's still doable. The extra time needed makes it less than optimal. To get the kill speed back up I had to add another hero to be a second Smiter running SoJ. Which makes me sad, as the extra hero further kills the drops for me.
